Santa Gertrudis is situated in the centre of the island, 11 km from Ibiza Town and just off the highway to Sant Miquel.

Description

Santa Gertrudis de la Fruitera ‘’of the fruits’’ is the village known for its crops of apples, apricots, peaches and oranges. It’s a small but interesting settlement with an international - and rather bourgeois – character, and offers a glut of bars, restaurants and boutiques out of all proportion to its size.

Besides the bars and boutiques offering ethnic fabrics, trinkets and handicrafts, there’s also an excellent auction house, where everything from Art-Deco clocks to gypsy carts go under  a hammer once a month.

The landmark eighteenth century Esglesia de Santa Gertrudis, in the centre of the village, is less austere than most Ibizan churches, with an elevated frontage and small windows picked out with yellow paint.
