Sant Rafel
Location
Perched atop the central hills midway between San Antoni and Ibiza Town, the fairly featureless village of Sant Rafel is all but overshadowed by the mighty clubbing temples of Amnesia and Privilege close by to the south.
Description
As a part of vast recent road building programme, meanwhile, a tunnel has been bored beneath the village meaning Sant Rafel is easy to miss from the main cross island highway. The village has a very good assortment of stores and cafes and several good restaurants, mostly strung out along its modest high street. There are also a number of ceramic workshops on the main drag. Around 300m east of the high street, the nicest part of the village is centred around the church. Built between 1786 and 1797, it’s typically Ibizan with metre-thick whitewashed walls visible from miles around and impressive buttresses. From the churchyard there are stunning views down to Dalt Vila and the sea.
