Puigpunyent

Location

Puigpunyent is both a town and a municipality, set on the eastern slopes of the Sierra de Tramuntana mountain range, around 14km from Palma.

Description

The valley where Puigpunyent is nestled, is overlooked by three mountains – Puig de Galatzó, Mola de Planícia and Fita des Ram. A large proportion of the area is populated by pine forests  and oak trees.

The town has 15 prehistoric sites in the immediate area, as well as Romain remains nearby, making it an extremely interesting region not only for tourists but for budding archaeologists.

Holding solitude close to its heart, Puigpunyent has refused to give way to the commercialisation which has taken place over the last forty years throughout much of Mallorca, catering for the tourist industry.  It has retained much tradition and charm, which in itself is appealing and many celebrities choose to visit this area of Mallorca in particular.

In the town itself is the eighteenth century church of La Assumpció de la Mare de Déu.  There are also a range of shops selling basic provisions and a number of golf courses nearby.  Other than that, there are no other facilities catering for tourists – ideal for the residents of this small town!
