Porto Colom

Located on the south east coast of Mallorca, Porto Colom lies within the municipal district of Felanitx, around 65km from Palma.

A typical small Mallorcan tourist resort, Porto Colom nevertheless boasts a spectacular history, having the best prehistoric burial site on Mallorca.  Originally a small fishing village, it has managed to retain some of its old character, still with its old harbour and small fleet of fishing vessels.

There are numerous shops, both along the harbour and the beach at Cala Marcal, although these tend to be geared towards the tourist trade.  There are also two supermarkets with a good selection of provisions.

Porto Colom is visited principally by British tourists, although there are no signs of mass commercialisation or package holidays here.  Holidaymakers are respectful and appreciative of the resort’s relative quietude and many have gone on to buy houses in Porto Colom.

There are several colourful painted houses here, reminiscent of the traditional fishing village style, giving the town a friendly, genuine feel.

Porto Colom is a pretty, functional town, welcoming tourists yet refusing to be commercialised.  For this reason, many people, looking for a property in Mallorca, choose to make their home here.
