Inca

Location

Situated in central Mallorca, Inca is the island’s third largest town.  It is located half way between Palma and Alcudia and has its own narrow gauge railway.

Description

With almost 25,000 permanent residents, Inca is certainly an important trading region of Mallorca.  It therefore resembles a typical industrial town, therefore appearing perhaps less attractive then some of Mallorca’s other pretty towns, villages and resorts. However, there are some traditional, quaint aspects of Inca which still remain, including its old narrow streets, the cloisters of Sant Franesc and its restaurants based in wine cellars.

Inca is best known for its leather production, and hundreds of tourists and locals attend its street market on a Thursday to buy something from the huge range of products on offer.

The town also plays hosts to a surprising number of designer label shops and boutiques, as well as more traditional bakeries, delicatessens and grocery stores.

Central Mallorca is the principal wine growing region, so there are a number of traditional restaurants serving local wine and excellent local dishes.

Although the town itself at first does not seem to be the first choice for a home in Mallorca, with its apartment blocks and factory buildings, there are, in fact, a number of fincas, or country houses, dotted around the district.  A three bedroom country home in Inca can be bought for around €800,000.
