Felanitx

Location

Situated in the south east region of Mallorca, the old town of Felanitx is around 48km from Palma, close to Porto Colom.  It is located in the middle of one of Mallorca’s main wine producing areas.

Description

The town of Felanitx itself dates back to the 13th century and is a municipality, covering almost 170km with a resident population of around 17,000.  It has a reputation for being one of the tidiest and cleanest towns in Mallorca and is certainly proud of its traditions.

One of the main landmarks in Felanitx is its Church of San Miguel, although there is also a fortress and a castle, as well as the medieval Sanctuary of San Salvador.

The town is perhaps best known for its brandy, its green capers and its blue tile manufacturing industry, which has been taking place since the third century.  All of these products are available to buy in Felanitx’s market each Sunday morning.

Although only a small traditional town, Felanitx nevertheless has a handful of excellent restaurants serving Mallorcan food.

Because there is little tourism in this region, many investors are drawn to buying townhouses and villas in Felanitx, looking for a slice of traditional Mallorcan life.  As a result, property prices are at a premium here.
