C’an Picafort and Son Baulo


C’an Picafort is situated on the north coast of Mallorca, in the municipal district of Santa Margalida.  It is a holiday resort, 60km north east of Palma.


As is typical of traditional Mallorcan fishing villages, C’an Picafort has been transformed into a thriving tourist hotspot over the last forty years.  Although there are still a small number of working fishermen here, little remains of the traditional Mallorcan character, and most residents in this region tend to live nearby, in Santa Margalida.

British tourists are small in number here, with the resort principally catering for German holidaymakers.  There is a wide pedestrianised promenade running alongside the beach, with numerous bars and restaurants situated alongside.  There are also two nightclubs, although entertainment in the evening is generally hotel-based and low key.

The Son Baulo area of the village lies 2km to the east.  Here are the two principal beaches in the district, which are very clean, and a small nature reserve accommodating protected species of wildlife including red pheasants, hares, rabbits and Algerian hedgehogs.

It is said that the municipality of Santa Margalida has the largest concentration of archaeological sites on Mallorca, most dating back to pre-Roman times and the most widely known being the Cemetary of the Phoenicians.

Although C’an Picafort is a well-established German tourist destination, it would not be unfair to say it lacks a certain degree of both character and facilities.  However, many savvy investors have spotted that properties in C’an Picafort are an excellent source of revenue.  Prices are reasonably cheap and a four bedroom villa close to the beach can be purchased for around €400,000.  If you are looking for a property investment which will continue to bring in an additional source of income, C’an Picafort makes an excellent choice.
