Bunyola

Location

Located roughly in the centre of Mallorca, 14km from Palma, the municipality and village of Bunyola is set on the southern side of the Sierra de Tramuntana mountains.

Description

One of the stops on the famed Palma to Soller train, Bunyola has always been somewhat of an exclusive address in Mallorca, shown by the number of large manor houses dotted throughout the area, some of which, including Raixa, are open to the public. The fourteenth century Jardins d’Alfabia is of particular interest, being a former Muslim residence, dating back to the reign of the Arabs. There are around five and a half thousand permanent residents, who enjoy the contrasting ground levels and scenery.  The 5000 hectares around the municipality have been declared a nature area of special interest, offering the area some protection from future development – giving some sense of security to those looking to buy a house in Bunyola..

Although traditional in its atmosphere;  around the village itself, there are a number of useful shops and eateries including bakeries, a newsagent selling British newspapers, a supermarket, a chemist and a handful of restaurants, not to mention a golf course only 15 minutes away; impressive facilities for such a small village.  Several TV programmes and movies have been filmed here, such is the stunning backdrop and authenticity of the region.

Revelling in its history, tradition and culture; houses in Bunyola, on the whole, can fetch extremely high prices, due to the beauty of the area, mountain views, its uniqueness and relative close proximity to more cosmopolitan cities such as Palma.  For example, a four bedroom house can easily command prices from €550,000 to in excess of €1m.  However, this can be considered as money well spent in an area as exclusive and rare as this.
